Creator of the comic strip 'Arlo & Janis,' Mr. Johnson first encountered an armadillo when he was 7 years old and visiting cousins in Mobile, Alabama. He has never forgotten the experience and considers it a turning point in his life. He is uncommonly well suited to be a professional cartoonist.
The bird in today’s A&J strip was supposed to be a cardinal. I suppose he’s now a blue jay, although it’s been my experience that blue jays are not feeder bums. They will, however, go nuts for dry cat food.
