These are the first two installments of a week-long sequence from 1997 that is a favorite of mine. I’ll show the rest during the week. I’m sorry for being absent so much last week, but sometimes life intervenes. I always feel badly when I skip a post, but I remind myself that I’ve been maintaining, with some regularity, an Internet blog for almost 20 years, almost before “blog” was even a thing. If you look at almost any blog out there, especially personal blogs, most begin fast and tail off very quickly. As I say, I remind myself of that so I won’t feel so bad, not as an excuse to goof off. I value this space and the fact so many of you come here regularly. For you, I intend to keep it up and do better.

thank you JJ !!! We really do appreciate having a more direct connection with a comic strip artist like this! It makes it all the more special, and us a community.
Ahhh. Love Arlo & his Dream Boat! Forgot that Janis was on the trip.
Yes the “dream when you know that you are dreaming” is a good one. Of course there is the dream that is so good that you try to fall back asleep so that you can continue it. Then you wake up and realize that you can’t remember what the dream was about.
As far as the blog, I think that the interaction with the readers motivates you to continue. There are a lot a good people here and we enjoy each other and your company.
Here is a final update that I posted this morning on the previous blog:
So we finally delivered the verdict yesterday morning. Had a fascinating discussion with the Judge in the case as to how we arrived at it. She thought that we did a great job and while they will probably appeal, our verdict was certainly fair. We did have a paralegal and she kind of led things. It was a breach of contract and it was obvious that both were in breach, but she kept claiming that we only had to be concerned with the first breach. I should have asked for the Judge’s opinion during deliberations but after the verdict she told us that we could have ruled that both breached and entitled to damages.
So as soon as I could I went to the internet to learn the story behind the story and that made me feel better as the party that we asked to pay damages were running a pretty shady business. The judge did a good job of making that part inadmissible, because had we known that, we really would not have awarded them any damages.
JJ, I don’t follow a lot of blogs, but of those I do, you keep in touch with your audience as well as any, and much better than most.
Re 10-10-19 retro cartoon: Not that Janis* isn’t totally rocking her “dream” bikini, but do we get to see Lalani, too?
* 92% naked. (No, I didn’t do the math; I just eyeballed it this time. 🙂 )
^Re 9-10-19 retro cartoon: Heh! Sometimes senility come so slowly we don’t recognize it.
Ghost-
Ah yes, the legendary yellow bikini.
Daily cartoons were still in B&W in ’97, so we’ll never really know, Blinky. But as do you, I tend to think the dream bikini would have been the LYB. Even without knowing the color*, I can see why it would be Arlo’s favorite.
* Just recalled…there was a later cartoon showing it in color…yellow.
“MY, MY” is right! I know that panel by heart.
Just got back from the ER, thanks be to God. Annoying symptom is probably nothing.
Since weather reactions are a recurring topic of the strip, I think the Villagers might like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM98p_BZXjI
Mark: Good one! Thanks for the link.
Keep up the good work, Jimmy! We enjoy you… anytime!
Poe’s “A Dream Within a Dream”
Dear C ex-p, I am very glad that you are okay and home from the ER. It must have been scary! Did you have family or friends with you? Did you have to wait very long to be seen? Hugs!
The MBH drove and sat in. There was virtually no waiting – maybe one minute while another guy gathered up his papers from the desk. Such is not always the case, but it was today. Probably less than 2:15 elapsed from my door to my door…partly because the ER is only a block away.
Uh, Jackie, about those new and unused devices — are you bragging or complaining? (I think we used to use this question when we were schoolchildren.) You probably don’t feel good enough to learn how to use them, but if you tried, it could relieve the boredom somewhat and provide some new interests. (As if you don’t have plenty of interests already!) If you really don’t want to use them, there are people who want and need the computers, etc. who would love to have them.
c x-p: It is good to live close to a hospital. Several minute walk across “Salisbury Plain” in good weather, 3 min. drive otherwise. Today was my weekly volunteer day at Sanford Health Bemidji, but I’m there 3-4 x/wk to work out. Volunteers can use Peak Performance [technically the former name of the physical therapy gym] 24/7.
HBO will air a 30 min. documentary on Stuyvesant H.S. and the 9/11 attack [just a few blocks from the “new” Stuyvesant].

Nice to have you back Jimmy. I enjoy your posts and miss your humor when “life intervenes.”
Think we have a demo of geology in action. Have not saved a “before” view, but believe a chunk of cliff face has dislodged and fallen from below the nest box. Comments?

Peace,
Just had a contact (second one today from within my area code) saying they’d had a missed call from me. Some computer must be making bogus calls and spoofing my phone number.
When I become King of the World, I’ll consider making phone spamming a mandatory-life-without-parole offense. Along with going through the Limit-15-Items aisle with 16 or more. ?
Kudos, JJ, for today’s real-time strip. Sadly it often takes a tragedy to make us appreciate what we have.
Ghost
What’s weird is when your own name and number shows up on the caller ID.
Yep, Bob; I’ve had that happen, too.
After I posted about the calls made to two phones with my Deep South area code, I got a response to my text explaining to the second total stranger that I had not tried to call them and that a computer must have spoofed my number. That reply has got to be “peak Southern”: “It’s all good. I was just making sure you didn’t need anything. Have a blessed day.”
Some people are just plain nice.
Bravo Mr Johnson! Today’s real time was beautifully expressed. Thank you for making it.
Did everyone see today’s strip about robocalls yesterday?
I agree that yesterday’s strip was great. Not many cartoonists went there.
