For the first 17 years of my life, my family had only a clothesline for drying the laundry. Dryers certainly were not unknown at that time, but they were not ubiquitous, as they are today. That clothesline seemed such an unremarkable strand in the fabric of our existence, but, looking back, it’s astonishing how much sheer labor was involved. (I should admit now, that labor rarely fell to me.) A heavy basket of wet wash had to be lugged from the back door of our home to the line, which wasn’t exactly adjacent to the house. We had a big yard. Then, each item had to be pinned to the line. Several return trips usually were required, to accumulate the lighter items that dried first. One could forget about it until one was certain everything was dry, but one did that at one’s own peril. The less the laundry was exposed to birds, the better. And rain was disastrous. We moved from that old house when I was in high school. I still remember the beatific look on my mother’s face as she contemplated her new laundry room, complete with electric clothes dryer.
(Cartoonist’s note: I apologize for not updating yesterday, but I was traveling.)

Thanks. I’m in a seminar right now, so I can’t listen. Hopefully later. I got to sing at Good Friday services with another Cantor. She was a back up singer to Bob Seger. No background instruments. Just the two of us singing.

Also, how does one get their name in red letters?
Looks like links are coming up red now. Steve’s name is red because it is a link to his wife’s website.
Llee and Gal thanks for the welcome home…just cot up from a nap. Warming up my pork loin in gravy…not so sure if it is still good….so in doubt, throw it out….dang .I hate to do that
I know, Debbe, but plain old food poisoning can be just as bad as Norovirus. Be careful! Thanks to all of you for good wishes. You are my good friends. And anyone who wants to share any of the information is more than welcome to do so.
Prayers for you and your hubby, Nancy – and for you too Debbe! So good to see your notes.
Remember my cockatiel – the one who laid eggs on the outside of the curved top of a domed cage? This evening, while we attended church, she perched atop one of our kitchen chairs [all wood] and dropped an egg about 2.5 feet onto the wooden seat. The egg did not survive.
She is not the Einstein of the avian universe….

Peace,
And 1 Grevy zebra. They have narrow stripes; Burchell’s are broader. The giraffes are Reticulated, the most elegant, IMO.

Good morning Villagers!
Wow, Emb, that website is so cool that I saved it. Loved the baby elephants. Years ago I bought a series of Nat Geo on African wildlife, and one was on elephants…they are very ‘family’ oriented and smart….unfortunately it is VHS. Thanks for sharing.
Been to confession lately 😉

Wow, news of import in the Village.
Nancy: I well know how distressing it can be to receive an unfavorable medical report. (Example: “You’ve suffered an acute myocardial infarction. Read this list of all the horrible side-effects a thrombolytic agent can cause and then sign this release so we can treat you with one before the clot causes even more permanent damage to your heart muscle.”)* But try to remember my motto: Never Give Up.
Debbe: Well, it’s about time you reported in, young lady! 🙂
*In a couple of weeks, it will have been 21 years since heard that pronouncement (or some version of it). I never gave up, and, if anything, my health now is much better than it was then.
And now to a more mundane (and, perhaps, typical) Ghost post…what’s a more precise harbinger of the arrival of Spring than the appearance of redbreast robins? Possibly, it’s that the shorts worn by customers in our boutique get shorter and the tops get skimpier…which is what seems to have happened this past week. Works for me, anyway.
Speaking of which, last Friday a well-put-together young lady wearing short-shorts approached me at the checkout counter holding a pair of even shorter short-shorts, asking permission to use our fitting room to try them on. When I told her she could, she entered it but failed to completely close the curtain at one side, leaving a gap of about 12 inches. Had I not been the gentleman that I am, I could have shifted my position about two feet to the right and gotten what I suspect was quite a show. But I did not. As my Granny used to say, “Virtue is its own reward.” (And as I used to say, “Sure, Granny.”)
Of course, imagination vs. reality can sometimes be disappointing, as in thong panties vs. granny panties. However, in this case, I suspect it would not have been. 😉

When I was stationed in Hawaii, this was my favorite beach. Now I can click on a link and see it from Oklahoma. But no substitute for being there! https://explore.org/livecams/oceans/hawaii-waimea-bay-cam
Looks ~ a blizzard on the calving grounds in Sask. Don’t know when calving usually begins. Prayers?

1 nestling & 2 unhatched eggs visible at Baltimore peregrine site. Other egg may be hidden behind adult, who then decided it was time to cover everything up. Any, new site for you to watch. The Village is not an early rising bunch. Peace,

Explore.org has something for almost everyone – lots of eaglets this time of year, falcons and ospreys on the way, kittens and puppies all the time, scenic vistas, and more. Our current favorite cam (when they’re not hiding) has bobcat kittens:
