A pithy comic strip about life, love, lust and puthy cats.

Extra, Extra!

Occasional Table

By Jimmy Johnson

The crash of my Web site yesterday was just one more reminder how much work I have to do here. I had always believed that The Great New Web Site of the Future would be unveiled in toto one glorious day, like some statue. I have come to realize the upgrade of my online effort will be a gradual thing, more like the carving than the unveiling. I could start, say, by posting more often! The folding in of Facebook is part of it. It’s all incremental, and we get to enjoy it together.

We went over this a few weeks ago, so I hope you’ll excuse me for mentioning it again, but it is significant. If you visit GoComics.com to view the daily Arlo & Janis, or any other comics, I hope you will consider signing up for a subscription, those of you who haven’t already. There are two options: free and not free. For purposes of our discussion here, either will do. Either plan will enable you, among other things, to choose certain favorite comics that will be assembled for you each day on your own customized comics page. At that time, I hope you will include Arlo & Janis. That is all.

(Addendum: To clarify, one signs up, or “subscribes,” to GoComics.com in a general sense, and this allows one to choose, or “subscribe,” to a specific comic, such as A&J. Or Wallace the Brave, etc.)

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Quit talking about it Janis, or he will look just to see why you are so fidgety about it.

Jimmy, I only have 3 toons saved, Arlo & Janis, Doonesbury, and Calvin and Hobbes. The only mornings I don’t read those 3 is if I am too sick to get to the pc! A&J have let me know there are people out there just like my husband and I, we are not alone <3

Once I got my wife a rain barrel for Christmas and was able to bury it in the garage all the way to Christmas Eve. I had to join comics.com years ago when my paper dropped Monty on Sunday. Top down is A&J, Monty, Agnes, Drabble, Get Fuzzy, Pearls Before Swine…..

I read Arlo and Janis at about midnight each morning. I have added Monty back. I occasionally read Doonesbury.

    You are in good company.

Does it help you if we do that? They keep nagging me to do that, create my own comics psge.

If it does help you get points or something with the suits then we will help by doing it.

It must, since you brought it up?

Jackie, I’m glad you asked. It does help! If you go to the Arlo & Janis page at GoComics.com (or the page of any other comic there) you will see, toward the upper left, the word “subscribe” and a number, in the case of A&J at this moment, “64,607”. That’s what we’re talking about here. Arlo & Janis generally does well in the area of subscribers, or followers, and I’m not trying to goose the numbers. I just want my readers to know about it: if you no longer subscribe to a newspaper, this is one way to contribute. — JJ

WARNING Jimmy Johnson, I just joined GoComics via my Twitter account. Should GoComics data mine my Twitter account I won’t be responsible for the fallout. 😉

Now, don’t forget to subscribe to A&J! And I don’t mind your Twitter account! — JJ

Ghost and I saw one of those driverless cars in Tulsa during rush hour traffic yesterday doing 35 on the freeway.

Turned out to have a VERY short senior driving it who could not see or be seen.

By the by, Gocomics in their aggressiveness made me register for more than one account! I complied and if I view on different phones or tablets I may be voting .ore than once.

If this is true do not blame me if a recount is called for.

I have subscribed to for years now as it is my only way to view Arlo and Janis. No one has mentioned that there is a Go Comic app for your smart phone for those times when you don’t have access to a larger screen.

    Cute little girl.

Late spring of ’58. Elaine [pregnant] and older son had spent a few wks in Can. with another family, while I stayed near Ann Arbor studying sciurids [squirrels, so named and otherwise]. During this time, for job application photo reasons, I shaved off my beard. Met them at the RR terminal in Detroit. Waiting room was a flight of stairs below the tracks and platforms, and I was at the bottom of the steps. Son recognized me before Elaine did. Maybe he was just the one first looking in the right direction.

Grew it back when I became sure it would be acceptable on a BSU biology prof. They were rarer then than they became by the ’70s.

    Peace,

I think Janis’s use of misdirection will work perfectly on Arlo. He’s already filed it away under “mindless, pointless chatter.”

TruckerRon, I’m with you on that. Everyone sees A&J in their own home. I immediately accept any change in furnishing, as fitting her desire and therefore good. Though I have been known to balk at end of month statements.

But at the time, yeah it would work on me too. I tend to be more interested in what is in her head then what we are sitting on, or setting our drinks on. (or on what we are setting our drinks) It actually works the other way too. I just now remembered some temporary bedside stands that were nothing more than intersecting corrugated board, topped with press-board. Through a nice quality cloth over it, and it holds up the lamp as well as any heirloom could.

OK, they got my $20 to upgrade to a ad free subscription. I imagine they will want $20 for each of my email accounts I use and each phone or tablet.

You are worth it Mr. Johnson.

Ghost find the subscribe icon. It is not on my tablet or my phones. I will sign in on a computer and look.

I subscribed, but the counter did not increase to 64,608. In fact, it now shows 64,604. I suppose that out of 64K+ some are always coming and going. And I have a very short “Comics Page”…one comic.

Odd. My subscription raised it to 64,605.

I went away for a few minutes, came back, and found that the number had returned to 64,604.
