A pithy comic strip about life, love, lust and puthy cats.

Thursday’s Child

By Jimmy Johnson

On Sunday, I teased you with the suggestion there are more changes coming here. There are. They will appear soon, and I think you’ll like them. Then I believe the site will be where I want it for now, assuming it doesn’t fly into a thousand pieces at some point. Part of me expects that. However, if all goes well, we soon can talk about things other than web development. (I thought you might like to see a picture of me, for a change. Note the pocket hankie.)

The site is looking great, Jimmy. Sadly, web development tends to be one of those things that is never done. Even when you’ve got everything perfect, something external comes along and knocks things out of kilter. Kind of like yardwork and the weather. Anyhow, I’m enjoying what you’ve built here and the community it attracts, as well as the chance to hear your insights about my favorite comic and life in general. Cheers from Wisconsin, Dan

Thank you, Dan, and I suspect you are correct. I’ll do my best.

Hmm, I had pictured you a bit older. Botox? Plastic? Just good ol’ Southern living?

If you could put a flux capacitor into a DeLorean and go back to visit that young whippersnapper and told him about 2024, what would he say? What would surprise him the most?

If it was me, I would probably shout “Wow I made it to 2024??? Some of you might ask about flying cars….

I’d tell him, “Halley’s Comet was a dud!”

With 18 years of WordPress experience, you have my total understanding and sympathy. Three years ago, my WordPress installation was so shaky, with customer support at the hosting service being no help, I was forced to either fix the underlying problems myself or start all over again. And I wasn’t going to start over again! In a day-long make-or-break effort, I was able to get everything working properly with minimal collateral damage. WordPress, PHP, MySQL, etc., have been stable since then. Now that I’ve jinxed myself, I won’t be surprised if the site crashes because the hosting service once again fails to automatically renew my SSL certificate subscription.

Was that a school photo, Jimmy? I ask because it looks like the ones I had during elementary school in Tuscaloosa in the 1960’s. Probably one outfit had the contract for most of the school systems in Alabama back then. There were a couple of years I was a patrol boy and had my picture taken with the hard hat and reflective belt. Maybe that’s why I ended up as a security guard after college?

    JJ:

    I, too, am a Thursday’s Child.

However, I never managed to go all that far.

A few years ago, though, I finally realized that going deep has its own rewards.
