Debbe 😉 The final song on my Christmas Playlist was the children’s version of the TSO Christmas Canon that Lady Mindy posted. Somehow, that seems appropriate, as her mind and mine often seem to run along the same track. (Poor baby.) But that’s OK, as my little playlist has been overtaken by events.

In place of listening to a song, take a moment today to honor the memory of Mike Monies and to think of Jackie and their daughters.

May you all have the merriest Christmas possible.

Jackie, the sorrow will always be there, so remember the love and the joy. Speak often of Mike and say his name and he will always be alive in your heart. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Jimmy, Merry Christmas to you and yours, and thank you for the gift of not only the daily comic but this Village that we share with our friends!

Ghost Sweetie, we had the sports car talk years ago, and Husband knows they are out of the question. 🙂 Give me a pick-up truck any day! Merry Christmas to you and your Mom!

eMb, cell phones can indeed be a curse when used at the wrong time!

Jerry, not sure about the fruitcake, but I will have a glass of eggnog with you. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all in our Village!

Today’s naughty TIP comic, by Alexandre Antigua, is entitled ‘The lightning.’ I guess there’s just a storm outside, unless it’s some bit of history every Frenchman knows about.

Trapper [and Jackie]: ‘Speak often of Mike and say his name and he will always be alive in your heart.’

Good advice, which I’ve been following for four years from this coming Sunday. It works. She is.

    Peace, emb

This N. MN town has its second brown Christmas in my memory [we moved to MN in ’58]. First brown Christmas was several years back, but after we moved to this house in late ’05, I think. Land is probably 98% snow free. Most of what’s left is the remains of piles left by snowplows. There is probably some also in the woods and on the N. side of the berm, but I’m not going to check. It’s 28F now, 31 hi predicted, 20 hi tomorrow [the Feast of Stephen].

This is easy on the resident white-tails, but not so much on the small critters. Snow insulates. Frost can go deeper now, but we’ve not had much bitter cold weather, say -20 or -30F. Snow is likely to accumulate in Jan-early March.

Christmas dinner soon at Community Holiday Meals at First Lutheran. Peace, emb

Merry Christmas and thank you so much for your work and this blog so that other strange, er interested readers can discuss everything but the cartoons that you create. OK, sometimes we talk about them.

Greg Evans pretty much took a day off today as his Luann strip was pretty simple.

Take it easy, watch football and enjoy your family this week.

BTW, I don’t buy a paper anymore, but my MIL likes it and I bought one today. The Detroit Free Press puts A&J in a box, instead of a square….Totally ruined today’s strip.

Luke 2:8-18New King James Version (NKJV)

    Glory in the Highest
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold,[a] an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”[b]
15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely[c] known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

Trucker: I’d seen still photos and drawings before, but hadn’t watched its flexible skull bones at work. As a kid and teen, it was interesting to realize that the vertebrate skull had relatively recently become a box, particularly so in mammals, but was a flexible array of bones in many fishes, herps, and even birds, many of which can move their upper jaws. Neat photos.

Ursen: My NKJV is a Gideons Bible, and lacks those [a], [b], and [c] notes. What do they say?

I found them on line. Apparently another version [NU] lacks ‘behold’ and ‘widely’ [which would tell us why this tale is not found in The Jerusalem Daily for 25 Dec., 4 BCE], and uses ‘to all of good will’ or some such to avoid the gender problem.

Jerry, if I could still eat such things without worrying about all the carbs, I’d take the eggnog and fruitcake and make french toast out of it. (Either that, or “bread” pudding for tonight’s desert.) But then, I’m a fan of Chopped, and they’re real big on re-purposing and transforming the mystery ingredients in the baskets.

Today we celebrate the fulfillment of God’s promise of becoming incarnate. He loved us so much that He sent his son and then watched him die on a cross. I am watching Heaven is for Real as I type this and Jackie, all that I can tell you is that Heaven and God ARE for real. A lot of people who do not really know you are praying for you. May the Peace of Christ be with you always.
