Remember, I told you to keep in mind that this strip was drawn in the 80s, when they were still tamping the grave of the Age of Aquarius with shovels. Of course, when I drew this, we just thought we knew the meanings of hedonism and excess. The woman’s name, by the way, is Jasmine. She was to be a regular. The bar patron is a walk-on.
I resurrected the concept of Lost Key about ten years later, but with children in the lead roles. I think that strip had more potential, but it’s misplaced at the moment. If I ever find it, I’ll show it to you, too.

Peace,
why was Janis grumpy? short answer- because.
but perhaps also because the weather’s been so weird…HOT, then unexpected rain while they were walking, then Gordon blew threw….phooey, old t shirt will be comfortable.

Peace,
I like today’s new strip. Remember the old one where Arlo’s plan for financial stability was to roll their pennies and take them to the bank?
I don’t know about anybody else here, but I’ve seen the movie Key Largo, and that song just drives me up the wall! There’s nothing romantic about the story, it’s a gritty movie about a man being forced to be a hero to stop a gangster. It was based on a 1939 play where the protagonist was a disgraced deserter from the Spanish Civil War instead of an Army captain from WW II.

Cool, Mark. I always wanted to have my own action figure.
Janis’s “harvesting of quarters” reminds me of how I began a habit that continues until this day…emptying my pocket change into a container every night. I started when I was in the Air Force, and I had a Pat O’Brien’s “Hurricane Glass” on my dresser I used for that purpose. I discovered that the night before payday was a great time to go off-base and have a good meal, in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere…all the other GI’s were too broke to go out.
Of course, in those days it only took twenty quarters to buy one an as-good-as-if-not-better meal than $25 does today.
Dang! I should have saved that glass.

Peace,
The url format at gocomics.com has changed over the years. For those who are curious, here’s a working link to that strip: https://www.gocomics.com/arloandjanis/2010/08/24 The odd thing is that it doesn’t match the miniature up above.
Thanks for the adjusted link, Sideburns. Following there, made me think of That Smell. Ronnie Van Zant wrote the cautionary song, which is a bit of a downer. But more often, when I catch a whiff, wafting by on a walk around the park I’ll react with an awkward laugh. Just like Arlo does in that strip from 2010.

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and
it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had
