Needless to say, I could never be quite sure how much money I had in the bank. Oh! I could pick up the phone and call the bank and have an automated voice tell me my balance. What an age we lived in.

Before I wed the girl of my dreams (38 years tomorrow!) I was paid in cash, and I paid my bills in cash. I never bothered to learn how to balance my checkbook (or even what that meant); no need – I knew my balance was $0.00!
Of course, post-nuptials She insisted I learn – but She couldn’t make me like it! I am pleased to say that the calendars on the back of the current register pad in our checkbook are over a decade out of date; it’s a beautiful thing.

Right now I am lying here with my right knee in an ice pack while exercising the left leg, the broken one, still recovering.
You realize that I made it out of the hospital just as the Delta version took over. Now elective procedures are being put off. Even cancer surgeries, as Delta takes our country. We are working to get my booster shot for cancer, lupus and RA, plus I am back in home quarantine.
Yes. The hospital I work for is going to stop elective surgeries that would require overnight stays as of Monday. If the patient can go home the same day, they will be operated on, and of course urgent/emergency cases will be treated appropriately. Their COVID inpatient count was about 1 or two patients a day in June, as of yesterday they had nearly 50. Most under 60 and unvaccinated.
Jackie, I just walked into CVS with a copy of my “Master Problem List” which includes my kidney transplant. You should be able to do the same– pretty sure your cancer and lupus make you qualified for the immune-suppressed booster. Their online system lets you schedule, and sends you to a site with the appropriate version based on your first two shots. I got my booster on last Monday!

Reading Southern Living magazine and recipes. Arguing with Ghost as to whether this makes me gain weight. I cannot get him to eat or cook with fruits and vegetables. I get so frustrated as I am an almost vegetarian clothing optional cook.
Maybe you can get Ghost to make curries, stews and other dishes containing vegetables instead of just meat, potatoes and veggies. Chinese cuisine is a good choice because it’s mostly veggies with just a little meat.
Hello all. I was just talking to my husband about the hospital and elective surgeries thing. One of our closest friends had BADLY needed surgery for a knee problem just now today, and I was saying how thankful I was that they got it done, because who knew when “elective” surgeries might get stopped here. (I just heard–he’s out of (long) surgery, and all went well.)
Honestly, for the first time in forty some years of banks accounts I actually have one that balances thanks to checking it on the computer as often as I can! (Oh the arguments hubs and I used to have when we had to balance and I constantly wrote amounts backwards or reversed. I have mild dyslexia, maybe.) In fact, I haven’t actually written, or owned, paper checks in the last three years, I do the bills I have to pay electronically now. Much easier for me. Cash when I have to and card for everything else.
