Sometimes it feels odd looking back nearly 20 years at the technology gags I was drawing then. I probably did more then than now, because the era of the true personal computer was just beginning, and everything was new. Even mundane tasks such as digitally organizing one’s Christmas-card list seemed yet one more godsend. However, and this is the odd part, nothing really played out as most of us envisioned then. The ubiquitous “contact list” and social media were not on the radar of most of us in 1998. Cell phones existed, but their primary function was as an auxiliary telephone. Today, the desktop command center and all the technology attached to it seem so quaint.
