A pithy comic strip about life, love, lust and puthy cats.

Extra, Extra!

Hula Whoop

By Jimmy Johnson

July 12, 2004

When this comic strip first appeared in 2004, I received a snippy email that read, “I don’t know what that woman is doing, but it certainly isn’t the hula!” That’s one of the perks of being a cartoonist: aggravating such people. I will go so far as to admit the essence of the hula dance is fluid motion, but come on! It’s a static, four-panel comic strip! Besides, does anyone see the word “hula” anywhere in the strip? OK, I admit; it’s been 18 years. Sometimes they aggravate me.

Here I live in Utah, the 2nd driest (rainfall, not booze!) state in the Union. Yet, tonight we’ve got runoff flooding into homes and cars because people didn’t keep their gutters and drains clear. The city’s drains couldn’t handle getting perhaps an inch of rain in 30 minutes. I’m glad to live on the high end of my street.

I just left my MBH at a hospital for some serious surgery. It isn’t likely to be life/death serious, but is vision/blindness serious for one eye. Surgeon cites ca. 80% chance of LONG range success, meaning we won’t know if the eye can see decently for some months yet. Good thoughts and prayers are solicited. Thanks.

“Fuchs dystrophy” if you want to look it up.

So sorry curmudgeon ex prof. Best wishes for your spouse. We dealt with many years of eye surgery and treatment for my MIL. Oklahoma has a notable hospital in Oklahoma City doing just eyes.

Thanks, RR & J. Just got a call that my MBH was now out of surgery, though it will be another hour or two before I can retrieve her. The caller assured me there had been no complications, even with her/our geezerliness. We give thanks and hope the serious pain medications do their job, too.

Happy that you, J, are also doing OK in your medical adventures.

Would “geezerity” or “geezeration” be preferable?

I think that everything published was very logical.
However, what about this? what if you wrote a catchier title?

I am not saying your content is not solid, however what if you added a post title to maybe
grab people’s attention? I mean Hula Whoop – Home of the comic strip Arlo & Janis is kinda
boring. You should glance at Yahoo’s front page and watch how
they create article headlines to get people interested.
You might add a related video or a related pic or
two to get readers interested about what you’ve got to say.
Just my opinion, it would bring your posts a little livelier.

I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses.

But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using WordPress on various websites for about a year and am anxious about switching to another
platform. I have heard fantastic things about blogengine.net.
Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it?
