A pithy comic strip about life, love, lust and puthy cats.

Extra, Extra!

September Song

By Jimmy Johnson

September 12, 2011

Another cat cartoon, from September, 2011. I didn’t choose this old comic to show you, because it is particularly noteworthy. I chose it, because it is the first strip in a week of good strips. By that I mean, if you click through all six strips, Monday through Saturday (and I hope you will), they are all good efforts. I consider a “good effort” a B- or better. There are no stand-outs in this week for sure, comic strips destined to make the Arlo & Janis Top 100, but they’re all solid. That isn’t easy to do! If I could do that every week, or even most weeks, I’d be a very happy cartoonist.

As most of us know, some more than others, Hurricane Ida has hit on Katrina’s anniversary. I am from South Louisiana, Lafayette and New Orleans. Ghost is South Mississippi. He lost his house to Katrina.

This storm is upsetting me knowing lives are being lost, homes, animals, businesses.re

I hope our readers are safe.

The levers held for New Orleans but no power for weeks to months. Catastrophic damage throughout South Louisiana around New Orleans.

My old house in New Orleans was just off the end of Magazine Street by Audubon Park in the Garden District. I would be in back yard and watch big ocean going ships cruise by on the Mississippi River. The levee was just there by road by house, you could walk into it to river banks.

The French Quarter is same way, the river is just there, as are levees.

I loved New Orleans and still wish I lived there.. I regret ever leaving.

I’ve only visited New Orleans once, but I believe it is unique. My own family roots–both mother and father–are in the Flint Hills area of Kansas. It too is unique in its own way. Roots are just that.

I wish Mr Johnson understood that it’s impossible to judge one’s own work rationally and impartially. The noted philosopher Ray Charles once opined,
“Ain’t a man alive [who] can predict a hit.” A better course is to just continue working, letting your subtler artistic instincts guide you along.

Decisions, artistic or otherwise, should be made such that they bring you inner peace.

The crux of your writing whilst sounding reasonable at first, did not work perfectly with me personally after some time. Someplace throughout the paragraphs you actually managed to make me a believer but only for a while. I however have got a problem with your jumps in logic and you would do well to help fill in all those breaks. When you can accomplish that, I could surely end up being amazed.
