There’s nothing like starting a series of classic cartoons on a Friday! Things still are in a bit of a holding pattern here at arloandjanis.com, but I’ve been thinking about a few things. I hope we’ll have a little fun next week. I know, I know. I say things like that all the time, but sometimes they come to pass. Meanwhile, I’m taking a few days off to visit the Gulf and eat some seafood. Happy Washington’s Birthday!

Looks like it’s ok to discuss politics here. NB: I haven’t; I just named it.
But, presumably, being a citizen lucky enough to have been born here [albeit in an ‘Eastern state’], I’ve as much right as anyone to talk politics here. Fear not; no current plans to join the fray.
Peace,
Thanks for the Friday update to arlonandjanis.com. It is always great to hear from our fearless leader and yes, I have my own Cooking with Steve show as well. I am leaving tomorrow for Japan and not looking forward to the airplane food. The food going over is prepared in Detroit and not all that bad. However the food coming home is prepared in Tokyo and they try to make it appealing to Westerners, but they use spices that frankly I do not care for. So I try to get to Narita Airport early and eat something there so that I do not get hungry coming home.
I have had some interesting journeys. One time I forgot to pack pants. I packed my suit, so I had 2 pairs to last the entire week. Then as I was getting into a cab near our plant, I accidentally stepped into an open storm sewer. So I rinsed the pants out and they were sort of dry in the morning. On my next trip, I decided to pack a short sleeve white shirt as it was hot. When I went to put it on in the morning, the buttons were on the wrong side. I had packed my wife’s blouse! Finally, one time I went to the ATM to pull out $200 cash and added an extra zero, which my bank would not allow. I realized my mistake and got the cash, but my bank wanted to freeze my account. They sent an email at an toll free number, which would not work in Japan. I think I sent them an email stating that my wife needed access to our money and after a few phone calls she was able to convince them that there had been no fraud.
Arlo knows the best things are simmered (should there be two “r”s there? Two do not look right.) slowly in a very large pot. And are even better a day or two later.
Safe trip, Steve!
“simmered” is correct, Smigz.
Wonder where Jackie is today? She is normally not this quiet for this long. Now I’m starting to worry about her.
If I purchased a chef’s toque, I wonder if it would make my cooking taste better.
Nah, probably not.
I know a true story about an older lady, involving what happened when she was cooking in the nude and leaned over the stock pot in which she was boiling a corned beef brisket, but I will not tell it here.
You’re welcome.
Am doing my usual, down at hair salon. Drove all over eastern Oklahoma in Black Jack yesterday with the top down. Rock music blasting full volume. Hair whipping and stinging my face.
The years just peeled off and I found that eighteen years old that a tiny remnant remained buried deep inside.
Dickens is unsure of cars that lose their tops. He’s more accustomed to mama losing hers.
And this is what is coming out of that turtle shell buried all these years.
ZZ Top came on radio just now playing this song, one of my favorites. This is how I see myself today. Scary, huh?

Washington’s birthday? A little early but I will take it. We have a tv in the bedroom that was donated to us, but is unusable because a universal remote won’t change the input, and the input is stuck on cable and all we have is an older Roku player in there. Been meaning to buy an original remote for several months now, but just haven’t got a round toit.
Is today a holiday? On Friday?
Good time to see the Berry College eagles. The li’l fuzzballs are to the right center of the nest, while parent is left center.
Wait, What!? “visit the Gulf?”
I thought our illustrious leader LIVED on the Gulf? Or did he move away when I wasn’t looking??
Jackie, enjoyed rocking out to ZZ. Thanks
Think I better go get dry food for the cats. Almost empty and don’t want any feline food riots. Or any of the other ways they show their displeasure. Will go to the local feed store which has good quality dry food in jumbo bags.
Greg in MS: Neither hidden nor publicized, but yes, he did.
So excited people. I just registered Black Jack and have never had the level of laughter since that first 1957 Mercury, my first car, or my second car the legendary Ford red and white 1961 Sunliner.
I was 17 when I got Sunliner and I have ALWAYS wanted a Mustang. Answered dreams.
If you’re lucky enough to have good weather this weekend, get outside (or look out your windows) and take part in the annual Great Backyard Bird Count – http://gbbc.birdcount.org/about/
It is going to rain all day Sunday and Monday but Saturday I will be out of town as well. It’s going to be a beautiful day so I’ll have Jack’s top down.
Got new plates and love the new Oklahoma plates. It is a highly stylized white bird, the Oklahoma swallow tail.3 WA 1 awe 0
The last message is from Dickens who was frantically trying to gain traction to chew up clerk loading water in my car.
Ruth Anne: Thanks. I’m in. Peace,
Jackie, ‘the Oklahoma swallow tail.’
Is it the Swallow-Tailed Kite [Elanoides forficatus]? According to the big Peterson’s, these hawks normally range along the coast and a bit inland [incl. all of FL] from SC-east TX. Like most birds, they are seen occasionally outside their usual range, but OK seems a bit much for it to be called the OK swallow-tail.
Casual bird-watchers need to know.
Peace,
I haven’t a clue, emb. What do you think?

I drove three autos in HS.
My first was a black ’49 Chevy…which I’d give anything to own today.
My second was a black-with-white-side-trim ’57 Mercury. Cool ride, with cruiser skirts and glass-pack mufflers. Fast, but kind of barge-like.
My third was a gold-with-white-fin-trim ’57 Plymouth. Fast, with good handling. In fact, faster than the law allowed…but more fun than the law allowed, too.
Anyone else remember their special rides from HS and college years?
