The good Lord willing and the Creeks don’t rise, I’ll be in Chattanooga when the sun goes down today. Have you ever heard that expression? (Southerners, be quiet and sit on your hands for this one.) I’ve heard it most of my life, and of course I first assumed it meant, If providence allows and the roads don’t flood. I have since learned an alternative version. “Creeks” refers to the Creek Indians, a dominant eastern tribe when European settlers appeared in North America. That’s probably correct; it makes sense. Not far from where I was born in Alabama is Horseshoe Bend on the Tallapoosa River. There, in 1814, Andrew Jackson and an army of Tennesseans attacked a fortified Creek village during the climactic battle to subdue the Creeks in Alabama after years of skirmishes. The source of all this friction was, of course, a desperate attempt by the Indians to hang on to their natural-born place in this world. It didn’t work. More Native Americans died in battle on that day than on any other day during all the 19th Century Indian wars. From there, Jackson and his bunch marched to New Orleans, but that’s another history lesson. And Chattanooga? Well, we’re out of time.

Beautiful day to shop in Oklahoma.

Jean dear: 😀
Jackie, have you ever thought HAL might have a problem with your accent, stemming from attempts to eradicate your original one, combined with what you have picked up from various continents, making you simultaneously sound as though you are from nowhere and everywhere?
Absolutely believe that. Voice commands and I do not do well at all. I need to work on that. No one can understand me at times.
Ironically a second gypsy outfit with long soft gathered skirt and skimpy beaded top fell into my shopping cart just now. Vagrant travelers had best look out for women luring them like sirens to their doom.
Tambourines. I need a tamborine.
I just completed my 19th (walking the entire way) marathon and if I have a brain in my head, my last marathon. While I really enjoy getting out and walking the 10, 12, 15 , even 20 mile walks, it just can’t prepare you to go 26.2 miles. I did my first since my surgery in 2015 to see if I could do it. I did the second because I felt that I had a made a tactical error and it was less than 20°. I did this year’s race because last year had 60 MPH winds so it was not a true test.
But today was picture perfect weather-wise and while i might have been quick at the start, I realized that the WALL is real and not worth my trouble any more. I’ll keep walking my 3.35 miles everday, but I am 60 yrs old, so I guess that I will help others with running. I would love to work at the local running shop, but I don’t know if they would want me!
Oh I did get a nice tan!
Steve you are to be congratulated for recognizing the need to modify your hobby and accept the “now.” That is hard and many never do.
Enjoy what you do and go on doing it for that.
Jackie, I’ve got your tambourine right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGjvgvqOx7c
And I think this is better than Bruce Springsteen’s version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvJ6o1PC4pA
Hey, I bought two Bob Mackie jackets, the designer that does Cher’s skimpy costumes.
Paid about $3.50 each for them. I figured if I wore them once they were worth that.
Not as skimpy as hers but his designs.
Ha, I went to Purdue University (I have been here yesterday and today) and our basketball arena is Mackey Arena. Always makes me think of the designer…Well maybe when others talk about his fashion. That subject doesn’t really come up in my conversations!
Beginning to wonder if Jackie is finding the thriftiest thrift stores in existence, or is finding clothes that have “fallen off a truck”. 🙂
Steve: Right on! But, ‘Oh I did get a nice tan!’ Dr. Roholt would at least be glad you didn’t call it a ‘healthy tan.’
Peace,
Jean dear, the “Google Gnome” advert is definitely an April Fool’s joke. I watched it 9 times to make sure. Which had nothing to do with the hot wife’s hot legs, of course.
Finished picking up the last bit of furniture for my apartment today. Nice sunny day with a high of around 75. For the curious, I’m now living on Tulsa time, as the song goes. Jackie talked up Oklahoma and helped me find a good place to live, so now I’m an Okie. As I find my way around and learn more about this place, I’ll talk about it. Right now, I’m using a GPS to navigate these unfamiliar streets. I feel blessed to have gotten an apartment where I did, as almost anything I need is within 4 or 5 miles and probably much closer. Nice complex, friendly staff and (so far) quiet neighbors.
Thank you Jackie.
Jean, thanks. I am a big garden gnome fan.
We spent a long day chasing Texas wildflowers and the elusive Texas Bluebonnets. Bluebonnets have a strong preference for blooming in large pastures, far from main roads.
I don’t believe I ever released this information, but based on an unannounced experiment a few years ago involving my all-female staff, I can tell you that this actually works. Thanks, Jimmy!

My wife’s cousin sent me this link as she considers my humor like minded of Groucho. A nice compliment. I think Jimmy is of the same ilk. I enjoyed the Marx Brothers as well as the Hope/Crosby movies because they were written so well. Even i half of it was ad-lib.

emb, thanks for the Trafalgar Square web cam link.
So much happens in and around the Square. The National Gallery behind the Square. St. Martins-in-The-Fields across the street is home to many classical concerts. While the Square is the venue for young musicians to give free concerts. A short walk takes you to Leicester Square and its vast selection of eateries.
Now you have me wanting to book a flight to.London.
On another British note. Today is The Oxford – Cambridge boat races. Oxford has won men’s competition, while the women’s race is about to begin.
Merton rules 😉
Good morning. It is to become stormy later. I need to dress and get going.
Walked out to carport to get something out of van and spoke to my friend Glen the police officer commenting he had seen me in a nightgown before. Turns out his old deputy partner had not.
Maybe they will Patrol more now.
